River levels in the region have been on the rise due to the heavy rains that occurred in the previous week, with flood warnings issued for the Wabash and White rivers.
Wabash River at Vincennes will start rising above the flood level Wednesday and will crest around 21.2 feet on Monday, August 24.
According to the National Weather Service, floods started at the Wabash River following the extreme rains that occurred in north central Indiana. Moderate floods are expected later this week at Terre Haute, with the crest progressing downstream throughout the Wabash basin.
At Vincennes, the forecasted levels of the Wabash River will cause flooding in farm land not protected by levees
Floods continue in the White River.
Edwardsport is expected to see the crest at 21 feet Friday, possibly causing floods in the bottomlands and closing Old Vincennes Road and State Road 358 between Plainville and Edwardsport. The White at Edwardsport rose just above the 15 foot flood stage early Tuesday morning.
The White at Petersburg is expected to reach minor floods Tuesday evening and will crest at 21.3 feet Sunday. Past floods at this level have caused flooding along State Road 257 south of Washington.
