Indiana families are still coping with the consequences of last week’s severe weather conditions and flooding, but now there is help from the government available to those who need it.
The grants of up to $5,000 will be available for those Hoosiers, whose houses have been flooded and who were forced to evacuate, Governor Mike Braun said. These funds will assist those affected in covering their most urgent needs – food and clothes.
The displacement of more than 1,000 people was reported by Governor Mike Braun. In addition, the state is giving out temporary housing vouchers.
Indiana has already been declared an emergency disaster situation by the federal government and the state has now asked for a major disaster declaration. It could provide additional help for the residents, who do not have insurance or have it insufficient.
Braun said that even if the state does not receive a major disaster declaration, he is confident Indiana’s reserve funding will be sufficient “as long as state government keeps running like it has been, and our economic activity on the revenue side, we’re hoping that extends itself into the future.”
Those Hoosiers affected by the floods may dial 2-1-1 to get information on assistance available to them.
