The Old Northwest Corporation has received a $9,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to support the installation of decorative lighting in downtown Vincennes.
The funding was awarded through Duke Energy’s America 250 grant program, which supports projects recognizing the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Duke Energy representative Kurt Phegley presented the ceremonial check to Old Northwest Corporation board members Ellen Harper, Mark Hill, Judy Kratzner, Janice Barniak, Jo Taylor and Jamie Dugan, along with Red Skelton Museum Executive Director Anne Pratt and special guest Lothian Skelton.
The Old Northwest Corporation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the history, heritage, historic sites and artifacts of the Old Northwest Territory.
Established by the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, the Old Northwest Territory was the nation’s first organized incorporated territory following the American Revolution. It included land that later became the states of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin, along with part of present-day Minnesota.
