Vincennes University students in the John Deere TECH Program recently received hands-on experience with some of John Deere’s most advanced agricultural equipment after the company’s largest combine was brought to the university’s Agricultural Center.
The John Deere X9 1100 Combine and a 1775 Planter gave students the opportunity to diagnose and service equipment used by today’s dealerships. The equipment was brought to campus through a partnership between VU John Deere TECH Program Director Chad Hill and Sloan Implement in Vincennes.
Student Braden Clark of Oaktown said working on the equipment was both enjoyable and educational, adding he appreciated the opportunity the university provided.
Jacob Shuter of Frankton said the hands-on experience helped him better understand how the planter operates and allowed students to learn without the pressure of servicing a customer’s machine.
VU is one of a limited number of colleges participating in the John Deere TECH Program, where students earn an associate degree in Diesel Technology while receiving paid dealership sponsorships and training on modern agricultural equipment.
