Indiana State Police released new enforcement statistics showing troopers and commercial vehicle officers remained busy across the state during May.
The agency reports troopers made nearly 35-thousand traffic stops during the month, issuing more than 16-thousand citations and nearly 28-thousand warnings. State Police also reported 361 drunk driving arrests, more than 16-hundred traffic-related criminal arrests, and just over one-thousand non-traffic-related criminal arrests.
Troopers investigated more than 15-hundred crashes in May, including 220 injury crashes and eight fatal crashes. They also assisted nearly 25-hundred motorists with disabled vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division completed 4,694 inspections of commercial trucks and other commercial vehicles between April 15th and May 15th.
Those inspections resulted in 505 drivers and 642 vehicles being placed out of service for violations. Officers also documented 36 oversize violations and 259 overweight violations.
The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division is responsible for enforcing state and federal regulations on commercial vehicles, including equipment, safety and hours-of-service requirements.
